Classical Hatha Meditation
CLASSICAL HATHA MEDITATION is taught for the first 30 mins in every class. We do this laying down, wrapped in blankets and feet up on big pillows.

It's a firmly rooted system of breathing, observation & contemplation. Approx 7,000 yrs old, it is designed to slow and stop thoughts .
Based on the concept that all ORDINARY thought aka VRITTI SVARUPYA can be useful and harmful.
The ancients skills that are taught are:
Listening; SUNAI
Breathing ; PRANAYAM
Mantra and Creative visualization.

Patanjali, the author of the Yoga Sutras believed that to become absolutly Still and silent allowed the true joy of being human to be experienced.
Stillness aka SHUNYATA is were you find THE TRUE YOU ,
the un-homogenized YOU ,
the YOU that is unaffected by yr culture ,
the raw organic first pressed YOU !
THE YOU that emerges from beneath a life time of stress,
a life time of tolerating, adapting, surviving.
The you that says to yr self " If I didn't have to do ..... Id be doing this.....!

Why do I use capitals when I say YOU. because YOU are really important.
We need this stillness practice as your 'work day' or 'parenting day' can be stressful and hinder the outcome of yr yoga class. This occurs as stress creates very specific frequency's . These frequencies or vibrations linger in our cellular, watery body and in leak into our 'fieled' . The field which has been proven to be a cpl of meters beyond the body, is pure energy or chi . Unfortunately as our field is part of us it holds our emotions and frequencies , thus when home with the kids etc we impose our energies onto others as they do us... this is where i beleive emotional responsibility is very important.... especially around kids and emotionally sensative people. to try this when u r in coles next... fists remebeer intent is everything... JUST BE LOVE... be KINDNESS... PUT A GENTLY SMILE ON YR FACE... this NICE FEELING WILL SPILL INTO YR FILED... We are all a a little psychic .. we pick up good and bad vibes via other peoles field.. most of us have been doing this all of our lives, often with out noticing. when u do become more awre you will become very sensative... u will intuit lirs and cheats easily... u will know waht feel ight, u will learn to love clarity .
My persoanl experience is a relativr tough one... if i were to live my emtional hardship id be on the floor in tears... so i RISE ABOVE IT... I MUST... it gets very difficult living with ill folk... I cant afford to loose my familty so i choose TO SEE MY ABUNDANCE...BEYOND MY DISCOMFORT AND RELATIVE POVERTY.. I say relatuve as compared to milluions of sentient beings i am actually very very wealthy.. for this is give endless thankls.. and oas i truly am abundant... Sadly my dear peers deem me poor and in lack , they do not understand i am in acceoptance and that brings joy. they r still working full time ...
These vibrations or frequencies often make the body , mind and field unperceptive due to fatigue & stress. Stress creates a chain reaction .Begining with a rise in the stress hormone Cortisol, which causes futher neg mood..discomfort, inflammation and general grunpiness. Hatha yoga class requires a cleansing of these energies if its to be truly useful...imagine laying down wrapped in a new cotton doona on off white pure wool carpet listening to some of the prettiest music you've ever heard...ound like BLISS... IT IS :) listening tio my cues, learning to really breath properly will prepare your cellualr body, your chakras, your meridiand for the rush of chi prana light soas to move old sm
I strongly believe without at least surrendering to the breath with an intent to let go & de-stress, it's not true hatha yoga.

all of that stress... the you that has dreams and values to full fill..

meditation will allow that version of you to brake out of slavery .. to see the true joy of each breath..... to take chances .. to realise you are abundant you are lucky u are alive and that is enough....

My strong belief around meditation was born when I spent 2 yrs studying PATANJALIS YOGA SUTRAS in 2001 . Only then did I understand stillness.
Since then I've used meditation to control my
high blood pressure and
menopausal symptoms
neuropathy-(nerve damage in legs)
I was injured at 14 years whilst preparing for the oz ballet school.. I was given hurdlers hip. Where they dislocate the hip & tear the ligaments if need be so as to make yr leg extension longer.. this was 1974 .They did this by putting me in the splits... my pelvis was probably good 20 cms from the flooras im not naturally limber ..then Kathleen Gorum , a famous ballet teacher at the Nationl Theatre in StKilda, put her entire body weight on my back to lengthen the ligament .. i can still see her long cigarette..she smoled styvo... her pointy long red nails poking me .... her four inch cork cloggs bamboozled me,, how couold she balance,,,! i didbt know it but this was . a violent and permanent injury . the hip damage wasnt fully recognized until i was 40... a brilliant local man discovered many years of deep scar tissue... which caused most of my pain ....
point im making is .. we all have old injuries.... but .. as we get older that can haunt us.... thats fins... but the dangetr of sliding into legal drugs is very very real.... just because they arelegal in NOW WAY makes thenm SAFE FOR HUMANS... thes men are in the business of ILLNESS.... they want u to remain dependant on their pills....careful where u send ur angels to ballet.. their intent is weird... ....!thus my right hip-leg is mangled.... by the time i was 21 i realised i was in trouble.. i threw my high heels away and began yoga... at 24 i was doing iyengar yoga daily at melb uni .... 30 years later im doing hatha yoga daily at my owwn studfio and have been for 14 years..... ,

If you are injured form yr past weather it be physically or emotionally hatha yoga and classical hatha meditation can give you the strength and the tools to manage for the long term without a dependency on pain relief and mind altering-personality altering drugs such as antidepressants.

... if I meditate at least once a day and excercise every day I no longer need any medications.

We will explore gentle hatha yoga & several popular scientifically proven Meditation techniques.
Including the ancient art of
Listening; SUNAI
Breathing ; PRANAYAM
Mantra and Creative visualization.

Certainly we already listen and breath etc,so why is this not useful? We are marvelous multi taskers, thus when we breath and listen we are often doing several other things at the same time. This is a normal human experience.
NORMAL , however often feels void of joy. NORMAL often leaves us depressed and wandering what ITS ALL ABOUT. This is why we choose more than just a normal experience . JOY CAN BE FOUND IN STILLNESS! hard to imagine I know... but when you understand the physiology of stress .. you will begin to understand how stillness can reverse the stress hormone avalanche .

Solfeggio frequency were used in Ancient Gregorian Chants, such as the great hymn to St. John the Baptist, along with others that church authorities say were lost centuries ago. The chants and their special tones were believed to impart tremendous spiritual blessings when sung in harmony during religious masses. These powerful frequencies were rediscovered by Dr. Joseph Puleo as described in the book Healing Codes for the Biological Apocalypse by Dr. Leonard Horowitz. I give honor to both of these gentleman for the part they’ve played in helping return these lost frequencies back to humanity.

Learn about the frequency of Love, The frequency of DNA & of compassion etc
has a great blurb beneath it.

powerful 174hz .grounding also very close to shulman resonance, thus similar to mother earths resonance.

please read the blurb below the u tube vid.

Do you remember laying in the bath as a kid and listening to the echos in the water whilst yr ears were submerged.

FOR SPECIAL NEEDS KIDS: (special needs kids)

Heal yr life with LOVING thoughts & HAPPY memories.
Recent studies show that positive emotion/thought such as love, joy, greatfulness and etc. effects human
DNA by making the strands longer and more perceptive (meaning uncoding the hidden talents such as ESP, precognition, clairvoyance and others), when negative emotion such as fear, anger, despair and etc. makes DNA shrink, therefore limiting human perception a great deal. One has to establish an ongoing positive thought in order for these changes to occur.

Why not start NOW.
First...lets get rid of the term meditate... as it has great expectation attatched to it. Instead,
I'll ask, have you breathed with awareness today....have you been mindful?
You dont need any experience just the ability to listen and breath. Thats all I want you to do...BREATH....FEEL...LISTEN.....

.... Please turn on your speakers ,not too loud... check your posture, are you sitting up straight?
Place both feet on the floor and lengthen yr spine...get comfy. Even though yr spine should be straight try to relax your lower belly...breath into your tummy, as though you are trying to fill a deflated balloon in yr belly.
Now breath in for 2 counts then out for 2 counts... longer if possible, via your nostrils if possible ,keep lengthening yr spine gently, concentrate only on yr breathing and the sound of the ocean. Listen, really listen to the ocean . look at the picture of the sparkling ocean. Can you remember a time when you were at the beach and you were having a really great time....? if so, lock in that memeory...or, just look at the image of the ocean. 'PERFECTION'! keep looking at it. It sparkles like a million diamonds, its so beautiful isn't it.......
Interestingly your brain doesn't know the difference between now and a memory . Yes, amazing ....dont trust it... so, if you imagine you are at your favorite beach .....or on your favorite holiday, your bodies physiology will respond accordingly, with joyful, happy hormones.

Allow the image of the ocean to fill yr heart with feelings of amazement and bliss...acknowledging how truely wanderful this gorgeous planet is..... Look at it and listen until your eyes become tired.....then breath in for 2 or 3 counts then out for 2 or 3 counts.......before long each breath will naturally grow longer....ENJOY.

CONGRATULATIONS.....You are practicing Pranayama. one of the oldest and simplest breathing techniques on the planet...pranayam..or easy breath ...MUST BE EASY.....When we practice PRANAYAM you are moving Chi / prana / Life force through your body . Your breath has become the carrier of life force /chi. Your blood gasses will gently balance your physiology will begin to feel a little odd.
You may feel tingly, or weightless. You are 'waking up'. sometimes after 5 mins of pranayama I feel
like i've 'COME HOME'...... the oddest and most blissful exprience , which often brings me to tears!.... This form of meditation is an ancient gift from the yogi's of India...possibly from 7 thousand yrs ago......Lets not take it for granted.....
Interestingly Meditation was the ancient yogi's main goal...hatha ( physical ) yoga was developed so that the yogi's could meditate for long periods...
So hatha yoga is simply designed to prepare the body for absolute stillness!!

Another way to experience no thought

remember...meditation is simply the absence of ordinary thought....

so just listen and enjoy...and dont take it too seriously....

every meditator has thoughts as you are human....allow them to exist in the periphery of your consciousness.... let them float on by...... See if you can go without engaging in ordinary thoughts for just a few minutes at a time....

I beleive that by minimising expectation in our meditation practice , we then, come to exist in an environmnet of success .

This leads to all kinds of chemical changes in the brain, has the ability to make you litterally crave meditation , stillness.

scroll down this page for links to various types of meditation .
To be enjoyed whilst you work.... or sitting or laying....Enjoy. :)

serious daily practice
At least 20 -60 mins a day is ideal. Consistency is a must. Alot of people like to put on a gentle sounding timer
/bell on to let them know its time to stop... this is a good idea as when we go deep , we loose sense of time...
I consider 20 mins a day enough to start with. I allow myself the freedom to stop at any time. I'm not attached to the out come, this attitude is part of my yoga practice. Being unconcerned with the outcome is one of the 8 limbs of yoga. It prevents expectation and disappointment.
Your meditation practice should be easy and be comfortably integrated into your life. There's no point in Sitting ( the term we use when we meditate regardless of laying or sitting, altho technically laying is called Shavasana.), when yr meditating causes you or your family stress.

When you prepare to Meditate there are
a few non negotiable rules :
1/ Get really comfy.Try to really nurture yourself. Put a blanket over your self, support yr head. You can sit up against a wall with pillows , or sit in a comfy chair, or lay on your bed if you wish.
Some yogi's may argue that you must sit in lotus (legs crossed) with no support. It's true , we go deeper when our spine is up right, but in my yoga school 80 % of my students have tired or injured bodies, thus sitting would cause pain. This causes the stress hormone 'cortisol' to rapidly move throughout the body. Cortisol, stress hormone IS THE OPPOSITE TO de when u try to meditate...don't take it too seriously. chill...

2/No muscles can be switched on .
complete surrender is essential...Be patient. If you lay comfortably and just listen and breath your body will let patient.

3/Breath via the nostrils. This really important. If you cant that's fine. A herbalist can help you with your sinuses.
If you are a mouth breather and yr sinuses are ok ,you need to learn to close yr mouth, relax yr jaw and breath through yr nose.

Other words for concentration are
It takes practice.

Put on a CD .
Crystal bowls or DNA altering vibrational healing, or simply something pretty . There are links to various types of meditation music on this page and on welcome page .
get comfy, close your eyes. You may like to where an eye bag. it may help you relax.
Now breath in for 2 counts and breath out for 2 counts...let the breath be yr main focus .
Depending on the length of the CD you may be left in silence. This is ideal.
I believe a ten minute preparation with sound/cd is enough time for us to let go . When silence comes we go very very deep.
In my opinion there's no bad meditation. If you only reached stillness for 5 mins in a one hr sit, it was 5 mins of perfection, plus your body had
a good rest.Always look for the silver lining. The cup is half full, not half empty.
To re-train our brain to be positive takes practice . With the help of Meditation it can become a way of life.
For more information on breathing check the Pranayama page for complete breathing instructions, if you haven't already done the meditation at the top of this page...its a good practice meditation.

The four types of brain waves in more detail
BETA waves (15-30 oscillations (or waves) per second (Hz)). This is the brain rhythm in the normal wakeful state associated with thinking, conscious problem solving and active attention directed towards the outer world. You are most likely in the "beta state" while you are reading this.

ALPHA waves (9-14 Hz). When you are truly relaxed, your brain activity slows from the rapid patterns of beta into the more gentle waves of alpha. Fresh creative energy begins to flow, fears vanish and you experience a liberating sense of peace and well-being. The "alpha state" is where meditation starts and you begin to access the wealth of creativity that lies just below our conscious awareness. It is the gateway that leads into deeper states of consciousness.

THETA waves (4-8 Hz). Going deeper into relaxation and meditation, you enter the "theta state" where brain activity slows almost to the point of sleep. Theta brings forward heightened receptivity, flashes of dreamlike imagery, inspiration, and, sometimes, your long-forgotten memories. It can also give you a sensation of "floating".
Theta is one of the more elusive and extraordinary realms we can explore. It is also known as the twilight state which we normally only experience fleetingly as we rise up out of the depths of delta upon waking, or drifting off to sleep. In theta, we are in a waking dream, and we are receptive to information beyond our normal conscious awareness. Some people believe that Theta meditation awakens intuition and other extrasensory perception skills.
Delta waves (1-3 Hz). This slowest of brainwave activity is found during deep, dreamless sleep. It is also sometimes found in very experienced meditators.

It is during Theta that you will do most of your healing. Whilst in theta we access inspiration and creativity that otherwise are blocked by stress from busy lives....
Thus Theta will not only relax and rejuvenate you physiologically, but it will inspire you,it will allow you to problem solve.
It will help you create the change you want. Make your own website
